About Your Host

David Foil is Director of Catalogue Assets for Sony BMG Masterworks, administering the combined century-old catalogue of classical and Broadway recordings from the Columbia/CBS Masterworks, Sony Classical and RCA Red Seal labels. A native of Louisiana, he has written extensively about the performing arts and film for over 30 years, as a newspaper critic and columnist, and as the author of twelve guides to classical music and opera, as well as dozens of liner-note essays for recordings on the Sony BMG Masterworks and EMI labels. Last year, Foil was executive producer of Masterworks Broadway’s acclaimed Legends of Broadway series of reissues. He is a Libra. His favorite color is teal. He prefers vodka to gin, Antonioni to Bergman, autumn to summer, Rodgers & Hammerstein to Rodgers & Hart.  Clearly, he is known to talk about himself in the third person.
